Chinese Flagship students spend one year—typically their 4th or 5th year—in China or Taiwan as a Capstone to their Chinese studies. For the first semester, students are directly enrolled in either Nanjing University or National Yang-Ming University, learning alongside Chinese or Taiwanese students in direct enrollment classes related to their majors and academic interests.
During the second Capstone semester, students complete an internship in a Chinese city or Taipei arranged by The Language Flagship and customized to meet their individual professional goals.
There is also an option to complete a domestic version of the Capstone year in a Flagship immersion program at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) in Monterey, California.
Close guidance from Michelle Olson, the Chinese Flagship advisor, helps ensure that the Capstone experience is well timed and successfully implemented.
