Curriculum

As a student in the Flagship, your path is designed so you not only master language mechanics of Mandarin Chinese, but also build cultural competence. You must complete core language courses through 4^th Year Chinese, 5^th-year Chinese language content courses, and cultural studies courses. You must also meet a literary and media Chinese education requirement before you can participate in the Capstone year abroad.

Students come to the program with varied levels of proficiency in Chinese, diverse academic interests, and unique long-term goals. For that reason, there are a variety of possible progressions through the program. Once admitted into the program, the director and Flagship student advisor formulate an individualized program path to help each student reach program proficiency benchmarks.

• EALC-C 102 Elementary Chinese II (4 cr.)
• EALC-C 201 Second-Year Chinese I (4 cr.)
• EALC-C 202 Second-Year Chinese II (4 cr.)
• EALC-C 301 Third-Year Chinese I (4 cr.)
• EALC-C 302 Third-Year Chinese II (4 cr.)
• EALC-C 401 Fourth-Year Chinese I (3 cr.)
• EALC-C 402 Fourth-Year Chinese II (3 cr.)

*Two (2) Content Chinese Language Courses (5^th Year Chinese):

• EALC-C 457 Chinese in Humanities (3 cr.)
• EALC-C 467 Chinese in Social Science (3 cr.)

*Required Cultural Studies Courses:
